Kids Encouraged to Join “For Kids by Kids” Event on April 18th
WHAT: Kids from Prince George’s County and surrounding areas are invited to join a “for kids by kids” Fun Run & Fitness Event for Kids. Jodi Evans, a 12-year-old Bowie resident, is organizing the event to inspire her peers to get moving, eat healthy and have fun at the same time.
WHY: Childhood obesity is at epidemic levels. 1 in 3 kids are overweight or obese and many kids need to find fun, easy ways to get more physical activity.
As part of her 3rd year of service on the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Youth Advisory Board, Jodi receives support from organizations such as Fit Fathers, Healthy Little Cooks, NEXSTUP Training, PG Parks & Planning and Bowie High School. Approximately 75 kids attended the first Fun Run & Walk for Kids and 150 kids attend the 2nd event. Jodi stated, “I am so excited to see our fun fitness event for kids gain momentum. The Bowie Wellness Council decided to change the name from Fun Run & Walk to Fun Run & Fitness because the kids really enjoy the creative games and fitness contest. This tells me they are committed and that the initiative is evolving.”
WHO: All youth between 5-16 years-old are invited to join the event.
The Fun Run & Fitness event is being hosted at Bowie High School and partners and supporters include the Bowie Wellness Council, Bowie High School, Fit Fathers, LLC, KidsBeingFit, NEXSTUP Training, Healthy Little Cooks and PG Parks & Planning
