Have you ever traveled to a destination and wondered why your hotel doesn’t provide guests with bikes for both fresh-air exercise and easy-to-get-around sightseeing? This week, boutique hotel chain Kimpton Hotels just launched a fleet of custom-made bicycles, which are complimentary to all hotel guests. What better way to keep your healthy lifestyle on track and on budget when traveling?
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants partnered with San Francisco-based boutique bicycle and gear company, PUBLIC, to design the hotel’s customized fleet of bikes. Complimentary to guests at all Kimpton properties nationwide, the brightly-colored PUBLIC bikes come with a cherry-red frame, cream tires, brass bell, rear basket and orange and blue accents. The three-speed cruisers were inspired by European bicycles to blend classic design with a fun ride for everyone from novices to expert cyclists.
“Biking is taking over in urban centers across the globe as a sensible way to get around town and explore new places,” says Kimpton’s CEO and avid bicyclist Mike DeFrino. “Biking treads lightly on the planet, which we care a great deal about. It’s fun and it gets the blood pumping too. PUBLIC is a perfect partner for us because we both share the impassioned belief that design matters in everyday life and that the urban biking experience is one of the best ways to explore a city.”
Kimpton is also putting the spin on picnics by offering customized baskets created by hotel chefs including “romantic shareables” as well as healthy and local fare. For example, Kimpton chefs can build a vegan lunch with a healthy plant-based wrap, whole fresh fruit, a homemade nut mix and bottled waters. Guests can order picnic baskets at each Kimpton concierge desk.
