There was no lack of enthusiasm, energy or anticipation as runners joined the Los Angeles Auto Show and Fit Fathers for the inaugural Auto Fit run/walk this past week. Super dads, mothers and fitness friends were ready, willing and able to start their engines and pace through the Los Angeles Convention Center while receiving a sneak peek of the 2016 and 2017 new vehicles and concept cars before they were shown to the public.
What a joy ride it was as the road runners “oohed” and “aahed” at the newest rides coming to market. Not only was this the first time an auto show had partnered with a fitness brand for an event, but the Fit Fathers team made history as the first group to run a course through an auto show. “Optimizing health on the road is challenging, especially within the automotive field where we are fed incessantly at events and time for physical activity is minimized,” says Kimatni Rawlins, founder of Fit Fathers. “So I am proud of the LA Auto Show for initiating an energizing activity that will keep my colleagues and I focused on our fitness goals.”
The LA Auto Fit event was a perfect opportunity for local car enthusiasts, journalists and professionals in the automotive, fitness and entertainment industries to come together and begin their day with an energizing workout mentally and physically with like-minded people. Special guest, Paralympic Games Medalist and American Bladerunner, Blake Leeper, was also in attendance and shared his inspiring journey encouraging the group to run, rather than walk to their dreams.
The 2-mile run unified many fathers as well as other men and women with a health and fitness focus. This enthusiastic participation symbolized a commitment to their own well-being for families and communities. Furthermore, the Fit Fathers runners expressed a desire to see the success of the first Auto Fit run travel to other cities.
Participants received a swag bag filled with gifts from sponsors such as Meguiar’s, JBL, GMC, Buick and Tonka and free LA Auto Show admission for their children. We’re looking forward to next year. Until then keep running hard and driving safe!
